Exceptional Children's Program

Did you know The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) says Medicaid will pay for some Individual Education Program (IEP) services? The law encourages schools to recover the cost of certain services provided to Medicaid eligible students with parent consent. Financial resources help schools teach children. McKinney-Vento

Welcome McKinney-Vento Youth/Parents/Guardians!

To Our GCPS MKV Students & Families! 
     
You and your family are important to us and may qualify or have qualified for the McKinney-Vento (MKV) program because you are experiencing housing transition challenges related to economic hardship or due to some other hardship. Please continue to read below for more information.  If you are in need of food, clothing, or school supplies, please reach out to your school counselor, school social worker, or the MKV Liaison (see contact information at the bottom of the MKV section) 

We hope that as you work through your housing challenges that you utilize the resources that we may have previously shared with you, or that you reach out to us.  If you do not have transportation and are unable to pick up resources, please let us know.  And, if you have been identified and have not received an email from the MKV Liaison this school year, please check your Infinite Campus (IC) parent portal contact information and confirm or update your email address, phone number, and your child(ren)’s physical and mailing addresses. Let your school know if you have any challenges with updating your IC contact information.

  • November 16 - 22 is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week #hhweek. The GCPS STOP & Drop of Hope donation drive is year-long and donors will be asked to drop off specific items that help our families that experience homelessness. Donors can contact the MKV Liaison at 252-425-9368 for more information. 
Repeated Information is below which was in previous “Looking Forward” newsletters from this school year:  
  • If you have been identified for the MKV program and are interested in your school-age child attending the Boy & Girls Club at no cost, please email the Liaison. Buses pick up students from the following schools: Credle, WOXES, SSES, NGMS, and JFWebb. 
  • All parents and youth who are identified this school year should let the Liaison know if you now have stable, independent housing. Email: thickst1@gcs.k12.nc.us.

Parent Engagement - Infinite Campus

  • Save the Date:  November 18th - Parent/Family Academy Virtual Session
  • Title 1 Nights wrapped up last month, providing information and engaging educational activities and opportunities for the entire family.  Credle Elementary School, Tar River Elementary, and West Oxford Elementary School had amazing nights!  School principals, their amazing staff members, and parent partnerships matter.
