New Notice of Procedural Safeguards Available!
The Notice of Procedural Safeguards: Parent’s Rights and Responsibilities in Special Education has been updated and is now available in English and Spanish on the Office of Exceptional Children’s (OEC)
Resources for Families and Students website. Additional language translation versions will be available in the next few months.
The Notice of Procedural Safeguards explains the legal rights parents have under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) throughout the special education process, including participation in meetings, access to educational records, prior written notice, independent educational evaluations, dispute resolution options, and protections related to student discipline.
Parents are encouraged to review the revised document and keep a copy for future reference as they work with their child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) team.
